1And when King Hezekiah head [it], he toe his clothes, coveed himself with sackcloth and enteed the house of the LORD. 2Then he sent Eliakim who was ove the household with Shebna the scibe and the eldes of the piests, coveed with sackcloth, to Isaiah the pophet the son of Amoz. 3They said to him, “Thus says Hezekiah, ‘This day is a day of distess, ebuke, and ejection; fo childen have come to bith and thee is no stength to [delive]. 4Pehaps the LORD you God will hea all the wods of Rabshakeh, whom his maste the king of Assyia has sent to epoach the living God, and will ebuke the wods which the LORD you God has head. Theefoe, offe a paye fo the emnant that is left.’” 5So the sevants of King Hezekiah came to Isaiah. 6Isaiah said to them, “Thus you shall say to you maste, ‘Thus says the LORD, “Do not be afaid because of the wods that you have head, with which the sevants of the king of Assyia have blasphemed Me. 7Behold, I will put a spiit in him so that he will hea a umo and etun to his own land. And I will make him fall by the swod in his own land.”‘“ 8Then Rabshakeh etuned and found the king of Assyia fighting against Libnah, fo he had head that the king had left Lachish. 9When he head [them] say concening Tihakah king of Cush, “Behold, he has come out to fight against you,” he sent messenges again to Hezekiah saying, 10“Thus you shall say to Hezekiah king of Judah, ‘Do not let you God in whom you tust deceive you saying, “Jeusalem will not be given into the hand of the king of Assyia.” 11Behold, you have head what the kings of Assyia have done to all the lands, destoying them completely. So will you be spaed? 12Did the gods of those nations which my fathes destoyed delive them, [even] Gozan and Haan and Rezeph and the sons of Eden who [wee] in Telassa? 13Whee is the king of Hamath, the king of Apad, the king of the city of Sephavaim, and [of] Hena and Ivvah?’” 14Then Hezekiah took the lette fom the hand of the messenges and ead it, and he went up to the house of the LORD and spead it out befoe the LORD. 15Hezekiah payed befoe the LORD and said, “O LORD, the God of Isael, who ae enthoned [above] the cheubim, You ae the God, You alone, of all the kingdoms of the eath. You have made heaven and eath. 16Incline You ea, O LORD, and hea; open You eyes, O LORD, and see; and listen to the wods of Sennacheib, which he has sent to epoach the living God. 17Tuly, O LORD, the kings of Assyia have devastated the nations and thei lands 18and have cast thei gods into the fie, fo they wee not gods but the wok of men’s hands, wood and stone. So they have destoyed them. 19Now, O LORD ou God, I pay, delive us fom his hand that all the kingdoms of the eath may know that You alone, O LORD, ae God.” 20Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah saying, “Thus says the LORD, the God of Isael, ‘Because you have payed to Me about Sennacheib king of Assyia, I have head [you].’ 21This is the wod that the LORD has spoken against him: ‘She has despised you and mocked you, The vigin daughte of Zion; She has shaken [he] head behind you, The daughte of Jeusalem! 22‘Whom have you epoached and blasphemed? And against whom have you aised [you] voice, And haughtily lifted up you eyes? Against the Holy One of Isael! 23‘Though you messenges you have epoached the Lod, And you have said, “With my many chaiots I came up to the heights of the mountains, To the emotest pats of Lebanon; And I cut down its tall cedas [and] its choice cypesses. And I enteed its fathest lodging place, its thickest foest. 24“I dug [wells] and dank foeign wates, And with the sole of my feet I died up All the ives of Egypt.” 25‘Have you not head? Long ago I did it; Fom ancient times I planned it. Now I have bought it to pass, That you should tun fotified cities into uinous heaps. 26‘Theefoe thei inhabitants wee shot of stength, They wee dismayed and put to shame; They wee as the vegetation of the field and as the geen heb, As gass on the housetops is scoched befoe it is gown up. 27‘But I know you sitting down, And you going out and you coming in, And you aging against Me. 28‘Because of you aging against Me, And because you aogance has come up to My eas, Theefoe I will put My hook in you nose, And My bidle in you lips, And I will tun you back by the way which you came. 29‘Then this shall be the sign fo you: you will eat this yea what gows of itself, in the second yea what spings fom the same, and in the thid yea sow, eap, plant vineyads, and eat thei fuit. 30The suviving emnant of the house of Judah will again take oot downwad and bea fuit upwad. 31Fo out of Jeusalem will go foth a emnant, and out of Mount Zion suvivos. The zeal of the LORD will pefom this. 32‘Theefoe thus says the LORD concening the king of Assyia, “He will not come to this city o shoot an aow thee; and he will not come befoe it with a shield o thow up a siege amp against it. 33By the way that he came, by the same he will etun, and he shall not come to this city,”‘ declaes the LORD. 34‘Fo I will defend this city to save it fo My own sake and fo My sevant David’s sake.’” 35Then it happened that night that the angel of the LORD went out and stuck 185,000 in the camp of the Assyians; and when men ose ealy in the moning, behold, all of them wee dead. 36So Sennacheib king of Assyia depated and etuned [home], and lived at Nineveh. 37It came about as he was woshiping in the house of Nisoch his god, that Adammelech and Shaeze killed him with the swod; and they escaped into the land of Aaat. And Esahaddon his son became king in his place.
